Nexo Card Review: Cashback, Fees, & Perks

Nexo combines a Mastercard with a crypto-backed credit line and a debit spending mode. Credit Mode allows users to borrow against supported assets, while Debit Mode spends from the available account balance.

Credit Mode purchases can earn up to 2% cashback in NEXO or 0.5% in Bitcoin. The exact rate depends on the proportion of NEXO tokens in the user’s portfolio, and access to Nexo’s full benefit set requires more than $5,000 in digital assets.

The card is best suited to existing Nexo users who can use its borrowing, savings, and trading features. Users seeking flat cashback without managing a loyalty ratio or maintaining a minimum account balance may prefer a simpler card.

Cashback and Rewards

Credit Mode purchases earn cashback in either NEXO or Bitcoin. Rewards paid in NEXO have the higher rate, while Bitcoin rewards range from 0.1% at Base to 0.5% at Platinum.

The loyalty level is determined by the proportion of NEXO tokens relative to the rest of the user’s portfolio. The applicable cashback rate follows the account’s current loyalty level.

Paymentscan Testing

On 18 July 2026 at 15:36, Paymentscan used the Nexo Card for a PLN 59.17 Uber Eats purchase. Nexo charged €13.79.

Using the contemporaneous benchmark rate of PLN 1 = €0.230447, the observed foreign-exchange markup was approximately 1.13%. This figure reflects the tested transaction rather than a standard rate for every currency or merchant.

Additional Features

Credit Mode and Debit Mode

Credit Mode lets users borrow against supported assets instead of selling them to fund a purchase. Debit Mode spends from the available account balance.

Users can switch between the two modes in the Nexo app according to how they want a purchase to be funded.

Earn on the Spending Balance

The spending balance can continue earning while it remains available for card purchases. The maximum advertised rate rises from 11% at Base to 13% at Platinum.

Loyalty LevelMaximum Earn Rate on Spending Balance
BaseUp to 11%
SilverUp to 11.25%
GoldUp to 12%
PlatinumUp to 13%

These rates are separate from card cashback and form part of Nexo’s wider savings product.

Availability and User Experience

Identity verification uses Sumsub and requires the user’s legal name, date of birth, residential address, government-issued ID, and a facial video check.

A $10 deposit was required during Paymentscan’s verification test. Paymentscan completed onboarding in approximately 10 minutes on an iPhone, added the card to Apple Pay manually, and received a support response on the same day.

The virtual card is available across all loyalty levels. Physical cards are available to eligible Gold and Platinum users.

Who Is This Card For?

Nexo suits users who want the option to spend crypto directly or borrow against supported assets without immediately selling them. It is particularly relevant to people who already use Nexo for savings, borrowing, or trading.

The highest cashback, ATM allowance, physical-card access, and earn rates favour larger accounts that maintain a higher NEXO loyalty ratio. Users who prefer a flat reward rate without managing portfolio ratios may find another card easier to use.
